Overview
WillWork is a fitness app concept designed to help young adults stay consistent in health and fitness admist their busy schedules. It brings together personalized workout programming, gamified progress tracking, and gym resource planning into one place. When you have confidence, consistency, and access, it will work.
An Unhealthy Problem
Only 28% of 18-25 year olds actually achieve recommended levels of physical activity. And, this decreases with age.
At this vulnerable stage when habits are forming, personal health and wellness are crucial to maintaining productivity. Yet, many are also at their busiest. Poor exercise habits paired with demanding academic or professional schedules put physical and mental health at risk. Without addressing these gaps, the consequences extend far beyond the self, indirectly affecting those around them through interactions and influence.
Needfinding
To better understand obstacles around fitness, we conducted interviews with young adults of various age groups and gym experiences. We found struggle patterns in how they discover, stick to, and access fitness.
how might we...
…help young adults build and maintain healthy workout habits across different experiences and schedules?
Early Explorations
With our research insights, we ideated a range of potential features, prioritizing ideas that directly addressed the core barriers young adults face: time, motivation, and accessibility.

From our brainstorm, 3 features emerged that best addressed the pain points. When people know what they’re doing, are motivated, and have access, all in one place, they make time.
Walkthroughs
By selecting muscle groups, WillWork creates a curated plan with tutorials to ensure a safe and effective workout.
Gamification
Progress-Tracking → Motivation
Participants reported that working out can be boring, especially when progress takes patience and consistency to become apparent. Gamifying fitness goals and progress helps working out become more fun and visual, thus appear attainable.
Equipment Tracker
Know availability → less time waiting
Not everyone can afford waiting. Tracking equipment availability allows people to spend less time waiting and wondering, and more time actually working out.
